ACCOUNTANTS AND AUDITORS SOC Code 13-2011 Entry Salary $25.06/hr Average Salary $31.85/hr Job Description Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) examine, analyze, and interpret accounting records for the purpose of giving advice or preparing statements for establishments and individuals. They install or advise on systems of recording costs or other financial and budgetary data, provide tax advice, and prepare tax returns. Requirements 1. Is a resident of Wyoming or has a place of business in Wyoming or, as an employee, is regularly employed in Wyoming; 2. Has attained the age of majority in Wyoming; 3. Has passed a written examination in accounting and auditing and other related subjects the Board determines to be appropriate (Uniform AICPA Examination); 4. Provide a transcript, delivered directly to the board office by an accredited college or university, showing proof of graduation from a baccalaureate or higher degree program which must include a minimum of 24 semester hours of accounting courses and a minimum of 24 semester hours of business courses. 5. Must be currently employed in Wyoming or have a valid, documented, and accepted offer of employment with a Wyoming CPA firm or other Wyoming set to begin within six months of acceptance, or must be a current student at the University of Wyoming or a Wyoming community college. 6. Provides evidence of lawful presence in the United States. Continuing Education 1. No continuing education requirement for the first renewal period after licensure. 2. 60 credits of continuing education must be completed within the two years before the second renewal period after licensure. 3. 120 credits of continuing education must be completed every three years after the second license renewal period. 4. At least 66% of credits must relate to the technical aspects of the licensee field of business as a Certified Public Accountant. The remaining credits may contribute to the professional competence of a Certified Public Accountant. 5. A credit of continuing education is equal to 50 minutes of a nano learning program. One semester hour of a college course equals 15 credits. Credits can be earned by presenting, instructing, publishing research or articles, etc. See state statutes for more information. Restrictions Conviction of a felony or any crime which is dishonest or fraudulent. Grounds for revocation or suspension include: Failure to furnish evidence of completion on continuing professional education requirements. Cancellation, revocation, suspension or refusal to renew the authority to practice as a Certified Public Accountant by any other state for any cause except failure to pay fees. Dishonesty, fraud or gross negligence in the practice of public accounting. Violation of the Boards Practice Act and/or rules.
