MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELORS SOC Code 21-1014 Entry Salary N/A Average Salary N/A Job Description Professional Counselors render services to individuals, couples, families, groups, organizations, corporations, institutions, government agencies or the general public. They integrate a wellness, pathology and multicultural model of human behavior. This model applies a combination of mental health, psychotherapeutic, and human development principles and procedures to help clients achieve effective mental, emotional, physical, social, moral, educational, spiritual or career development and adjustment throughout the life span, and includes the diagnostic description and treatment of mental disorders or disabilities within the range of the professionals preparation. Requirements 1. Age of majority. 2. Has received a Masters or Doctorate degree in professional counseling. 3. Demonstrated knowledge in the field of professional counseling. 4. Demonstrated that (s)he has completed 3,000 hours of supervised clinical experience including a minimum of 1,200 hours of direct client contact.and 100 post graduate degree hours of clinical supervision with a DQCS 5. A passing examination score on the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) National Counselor Examination (NCE) or the National Clinical Mental Health Examination (NCMHE), or a passing score on the Certification Examination administered by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) or a passing score on other examinations as may be approved by the Board. Continuing Education Licensee must have at least three hours of continuing education activities in professional ethics and three hours of continuing education activities in suicide assessment and prevention every renewal period. Restrictions Felony conviction. Misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude. Licenses are valid for two years and expire on licensee birthday. Examination Exams accepted by the Board are The National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) National Counselor Examination or the National Clinical Mental Health Examination (NCMHE) which is also administered by NBCC.
