THERMAL INSULATION MECHANIC
License Description
Reason for Credential: No person may install or alter thermal system insulation for heating, ventilating, cooling, plumbing or refrigeration systems on or in a building, except as provided in s. 101.136 (6) (a) 2., Stats., unless the person holds a license or registration issued by the department as a thermal insulation mechanic, thermal insulation apprentice or a thermal insulation helper. Requirements of Credential: Thermal insulation mechanics are responsible for the installation or alteration of thermal system insulation. Thermal insulation mechanics over seeing projects shall utilize the appropriately licensed or registered individuals to install or maintain the thermal system insulation. Education Hours Required to Renew: The renewal of a license as a thermal insulation mechanic shall be contingent upon obtaining at least 12 hours of acceptable continuing education three months prior to the expiration date of their credential which is two years after the start date of your credential. A person who holds a license as a thermal insulation mechanic may apply to the department for waiver of the continuing education requirements on the grounds of prolonged illness or disability or similar circumstances. Each application for waiver will be considered individually on its merits by the department. A person, who initially obtained his or her thermal insulation mechanic license by completing an heat and frost insulator apprenticeship and whose request to renew his or her license is denied because of failure to fulfill the continuing education requirements, shall be required to take and pass the thermal insulation mechanic examination in order to reacquire the thermal insulation mechanic license.
