License Description PHYSICAL THERAPY ASSISTANT

A physical therapy assistant assists in treatment of any injury, condition, or disease by the use of physical, chemical or mechanical agents; uses heat, light, water, electricity, massage, sound, therapeutic exercises, and mobilization to treat patients, under the supervision of a Tennessee licensed physical therapist. Activities do not require professional or advanced training in the anatomical, biological, psychological and social sciences involved in the practice of Physical Therapy.

REQUIREMENTS:
Be at least 18 years of age, of good moral character, and satisfy education and examination requirements.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Approved physical therapy assistant (two year) academic program, which is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE)

EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS:
All applicants for examination shall apply for admission directly with the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT) by contacting:
