OSTEOPATHIC PHYSICIAN
License Description OSTEOPATHIC PHYSICIAN

An osteopathic physician treats, or professes to treat, operates on, or prescribes for any physical ailment, physical injury, or deformity. Licensing is also available for osteopathic physicians and medical laboratory directors.

REQUIREMENTS:
Submit the following: 1) two letters of recommendation from medical professionals; 2) a recently taken bust photo; 3) criminal background check; 4) confirmation of satisfactory completion from the head of the applicant's residency training program; 5) all other documents as necessary to satisfy education and examination requirements.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Pre-med degree, and graduate transcript from medical school reflecting a conferred degree (DO) whose curriculum is approved by the AOA. Satisfactory proof of completion of one-year, AOA or AMA approved residency program. There are no known international osteopathic medicine programs.

EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS:
Have successfully completed the COMLEX, USMLE, FLEX, National Board, or State Board exam. COMLEX is preferred exam.

CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
40 Cat. 1 credits with at least 2 hours of controlled substance specific CME biennially.
