Library Media Specialists and Coordinators guide and direct library media programs in schools and provide leadership in the planning, management, and evaluation of school library media programs. Instruct students on a formal and informal basis in skills related to reading, research, production of materials and the use of information and instructional technologies. Provide access to information and ideas by assisting students and staff in identifying information resources and in interpreting and communicating intellectual content.

Certification Requirements:

• Submit application for certification and non-refundable application fee
• Alternative methods of qualification for certification:
• Alternative 1: Completion of an approved program of professional preparation in library media
• Alternative 2: Completion of a comparable program outside of New Hampshire
• Alternative 3: Qualification based on Demonstrated Competencies and Equivalent Experiences, requiring both written examination and oral review
• Alternative 4: Individualized Professional Development Plan, for positions on the Critical Shortage List
• Specific educational requirements by position as follows:
Library Media Coordinator
• Have at least completed a Master's degree program in library science, library and information studies, or a closely related field such as education, and
• Have completed a minimum of three years experience as a library media specialist as documented by positive recommendations or evaluations from the candidate's supervisor(s) which demonstrate that the candidate has acquired the competencies outlined in Ed 507.21
Library Media Specialist K - 12
• Hold a Bachelor's degree, and
• Have specific skills, competencies, and knowledge gained
