Pesticide Applicator
License Description

Pesticide Applicators identify pest problems in and about homes, hospitals, restaurants, lawns, golf courses, ornamental plantings, forestry plantings, agricultural crops, lakes, transmission and distribution lines, and other areas where pests are a problem. Select various pesticides and determine methods to control the pests by applying pesticides and assessing any hazards involved. Pesticide Applicators may work on a contract basis, on a farm raising agricultural commodities, on a golf course, for a school, for a governmental entity, or as part of their responsibilities as a landlord.

Licensure Requirements:

  • Registration of the business entity
  • Supervisory level commercial for-hire licensees must meet requirements of Pes 300 for entrance into the examination, which includes a combination of education and practical experience over a five-year period
  • The supervisory pesticide license only for general use pesticides in the categories of B and G2, """"Right of Way and Commercial Weed and Brush Control"""" and """"Turf Pest Control,"""" respectively, is exempt from the five-year education/experience requirement. This licensure can be obtained through successful completion of 16 hours of training, and achieving successful scores on both the written and oral exams.
  • Must pass written and oral examinations in both general aspects and category of endeavor
  • Possess mandatory levels of liability insurance as defined in the statutes
  • Operator level commercial for-hire licensees must pass a written exam and work under a supervisor holding a commercial for-hire license
  • Supervisory level commercial not-for-hire and operational level commercial not-for-hire must pass a written examination in both general aspects and category of endeavor
  • A restricted use private permit holder must pass
