Minnesota State Board of Assessors Minnesota Department of Revenue Review Becoming a Minnesota Licensed Assessor Assessor Licensing If you assist the assessor of a Minnesota taxing jurisdiction make decisions about exemptions, classifications, or valuations, you must get a Minnesota assessor??s license within three years of the date of your employment. Requirements for each assessor's license level: Certified Minnesota Assessor (CMA) Accredited Minnesota Assessor (AMA) Senior Accredited Minnesota Assessor (SAMA) Trainee and Temporary Upgrading to AMA after CMA Expiration Levels of Licensure The license you need depends on the kind of work you are doing. IF YOU THEN Are working under another person's license You must hold a CMA license, depending on what property types you work with Work for a county or city The requirements for your position may specify the level of license you must hold Are the county assessor You must have an AMA license and obtain a SAMA license within two years License Reinstatement Within five years of becoming a CMA or CMAS, you must obtain an AMA license (see Assessor Accreditation Deadline) Note: If you do not have a current Minnesota assessor license and you need to reinstate the assessor license you once held, see Late Assessor License Renewals and Reinstatements Education for Minnesota Assessors Board of Assessors FAQs None
