Special Education Teacher
License Description Special education teachers teach basic academic and living skills to physically and mentally handicapped students. They observe students and give tests, discuss plans with parents, and develop learning activities. Applicant requirements: bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university complete an approved teacher education program in a field recognized by Georgia, or have a professional certificate from another state pass the GACE Basic Skills: Reading, Math, and Writing assessment pass the appropriate GACE Special Education content assessment(s) complete course work in the identification and education of children who have special educational needs (if equivalent course work was not already completed) complete a course in the teaching of reading successfully complete a test of computer skill competency Certification for some specialties in this field require additional coursework.
