Veterinary Technician
License Description Technician takes x rays and collect and perform laboratory tests, such as urinalyses and blood counts. Prepare animals and instruments for surgery. Applicant requirements: 18 years of age; good moral character; graduate from a veterinary technician program approved by the American Veterinary Medical Association; pass the National Board Exam Applicant requirements for assistant laboratory animal technicians (ALAT): college degree of 2 or more years and 6 months work experience OR a high school diploma (or GED) and 1 year of work experience OR no secondary completion and 2 years of work experience; pass an exam Applicant requirements for laboratory animal technicians (LAT): four-year degree and 2 years of work experience OR any two-year degree and 2.5 years of work experience OR a high school diploma (or GED) and 3 years experience OR ALAT certification plus a high school diploma, GED, or college degree of two or more years, and 1 additional year of work experience after ALAT exam; pass an exam Applicant requirements for laboratory animal technologists (LATG): four-year degree and 4 years of work experience OR any two-year degree and 4.5 years of work experience OR a high school diploma (or GED) and 5 years of work experience OR LAT certification plus a high school diploma, GED, or college degree of two or more years, and 1 additional year of work experience after LAT exam; pass an exam
