Firearms Training Instructor
License Description Firearm Instructors provide training at Bureau-certified firearm training facilities in the use of an exposed firearm while on duty as a security guard, alarm agent, private patrol operator or private investigator. Requirements: Be 18 or older. Undergo a criminal history background check through the DOJ and the FBI. Possess an AA degree in Administration of Justice or one year of teaching or training experience in firearms or the equivalent thereof AND possess a police or security firearm instructor's training certificate issued by the National Rifle Association or a firearm instructor's training certificate issued by a federal, state, or local agency. Application Fee - $350 DOJ Fingerprint Processing Fee - $32 FBI Fingerprint processing Fee - $17 Renewal Fee - $300 The initial license is valid for 2 years. Each renewal cycle extends the registration for an additional 2 years. Average time to process an application is 60-75 days. Authority: Business and Professions Code, Chapter 11.5
