Embalmer
License Description An embalmer is person who is qualified to disinfect or preserve human remains by the injection or external application of antiseptics, disinfectants or preservative fluids; to prepare human bodies for transportation which are dead of contagious or infectious diseases; and to use derma surgery or plastic art for restoring mutilated features; and who is duly licensed as an embalmer under the laws of the State of California. Fees: Application: $280; Examination and license: included in application fee. Renewal fee: $190 Examination Frequency: 6 days a week Exam Locations: 20 sites throughout the State (outside vendor PSI). Experience Requirement: Graduationfrom a mortuary science program approved by the bureau and accredited by the American Board of Funeral Service Education; completion of 2-year apprenticeship. Average Time to Process Application: 20 days. Renewal Period: Annually. Special License Requirements: N/A Authority: Business and Professions Code Sections 7640-7650; California Code of Regulations, Title 16, Sections 1234-1235.
