Pest Control Aircraft Pilot Certificate
License Description Any person who operates any aircraft for the purpose of pest control. This includes pilots employed by licensed pest control businesses or vector control agencies, or those who perform pest control on their own property with the use of an aircraft. Exemptions: N/A Fees: Initial application: $60; Renewal: $45 each year Examination Fee: $50 Examination Information: DPR's Licensing and Certification Program offers computer-based exams at testing centers state-wide for all individual licenses and certificates. Applications for all exams must be mailed to DPR's Licensing and Certification Program. You can find more examination information on DPR's website. Requirements: There are five certificate options available for pest control aircraft pilots: Manned Apprentice, Manned Journeyman, Unmanned Apprentice, Unmanned Journeyman, and Unmanned Vector Control Technician. Applicants must possess the required Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approvals to apply. Applicants for Unmanned Vector Control Technican must possess certification in Category B – Mosquito Control from the Department of Public Health. Apprentice pilots must be supervised by a Journeyman pilot (Unmanned Journeyman may only supervise Unmanned Apprentice) for a minimum of 1 year with at least 150 hours of operation of a fixed winged aircraft or 50 hours of a non-fixed winged aircraft within the past two years to apply for a Journeyman certificate. Examination Requirements: An applicant for a Pest Control Aircraft Pilot Certificate must pass the required examination(s) based on the certificate they are applying for. Examinations cover laws, regulations, and basic principles, safe use of an aircraft for pest control purposes, and aerial pest control application equipment and aerial techniques. Average Time to Process Application: 30 days Renewal Period: Biennially (every second year). Twenty hours of approved continuing education during each two-year certificate period is required for renewal.
